Approaching its 21st year in Chicago, Project RUSH is a not-for-profit organization which provides essential
and immediate aid to social service agencies that service the Chicago homeless youth community. It was founded in 1989
by a group of area business professionals.
Our mission is to
raise money to acquire, develop and place into service shelter housing, and to provide educational assistance to qualified
young people. To date, we have raised and spent more than $2 million in support of this mission.
Who We Are - Project RUSH in Chicago A not-for-profit organization
that raises funds to provide essential, immediate aid to agencies for homeless young people in Chicago. [501(c)(3) EIN 36-3696313].
Founded in 1989 by area business professionals with the common bond of being amateur
hockey players who saw a need to help local agencies acquire and develop temporary shelter and provide educational assistance
opportunities. Turns the generosity of our benefactors into a highly productive
purpose due to our entirely pro-bono, volunteer make-up. We have no administrative or paid staff, and haven’t for 20
years. Have raised over $4,000,000 to benefit Chicago-based non-profit organizations and provide qualified young people with
educational scholarships.
Why We Do What We Do Youth homelessness is disturbingly common. Annually in greater Chicago, estimates suggest that every night 2,000
young people have no place to call home. For 20 years, the money we have raised
has put a roof over a troubled teen’s head or sent them to school, when both may seem impossible at the moment they
become homeless. We see results and believe every young person is entitled to a
supportive and compassionate home.
What We’ve Accomplished –
Highlights Provided significant support to Teen Living Program (TLP), our first beneficiary
in 1989, including a $150,000 contribution in 2008 for a new facility presently under construction on their S. Indiana Avenue
property. Contributed $100,000 in 2006 to La Casa Norte’s Solid Ground, a
transitional housing development for homeless young men, recently honored with the prestigious 2007 Maxwell Award of Excellence
by the Fannie Mae Foundation. Provided initial capital in 1999 to purchase Wolfson
House on Chicago’s west side and continue to contribute to Inner Voice for its ongoing operations. Committed funds in 2007 to Thelma’s Place, an Inner Voice facility for homeless women and children. In 2007, provided funding for a 15-person program van for TLP youth, and scholarships to students at Francis Xavier
Warde School, the Daniel Murphy Foundation, St. Francis de Sales High School and San Miguel School. Over 50 children have
received scholarships or individual educational assistance from Project RUSH since our inception.
How We Do It
Since 1989, we’ve relied on the generosity
our friends, families, the business community and professional golfers to accomplish our mission by raising funds at our yearly
Pro Am golf event. A veritable hall-of-fame of golfers have made time to support
us over the years, including Peter Jacobsen, Fred Couples, Jeff Sluman, Craig Stadler, Jay Haas, David Toms, Chip Beck, David
Feherty, Gary McCord, Fuzzy Zoeller, D.A. Weibring, Kenny Perry, Scott McCarron, Natalie Gulbis, Paige McKenzie, and many
others. 2010 marks the 21st consecutive year of fundraising activity
